Our story & purpose
A new dawn for care.
Lumen is the unit of light. Our name is a promise — that even after the hardest night, a new dawn comes, and our work is to help people walk toward it.
Why we started
Two practitioners. One conviction.
We began as two practitioners with over a decade of experience between us. Working across the sector, we kept seeing the same thing: the quality of services declining, and participants not receiving the care they deserved. Too often, support was being measured in billable hours rather than in what actually changed for a person.
We decided that wasn't good enough. So we set out to build an ethical practice — one that puts people's wellbeing and genuine improvement above everything else. We cap each practitioner at a sustainable level, so every participant gets our best quality of support, every time. We don't stretch our team thin to chase volume, because the moment we do, care suffers.
That's the quiet backbone of everything we do. In a sector where trust has been eroded, we choose to do the right thing — plainly and consistently. We prioritise people.
What we stand for
Our values in practice.
Tone may shift with context; these never do. They are the constant beneath every report, email and conversation.
Outcomes over output
We report what actually changed for a person — not how many hours we billed.
Integrity first
If something isn't in a participant's interest, we don't do it. Full stop.
Sustainable caseloads
Each practitioner is capped at a sustainable level so quality of care never slips.
Dignity of the journey
We honour the whole path, not just the destination — in how we speak and how we work.
Who we are
Hopeful. Warm. Grounded. Ethical.
We are hopeful and encouraging — never naïve. Warm and human — never cold. Grounded and evidence-based — never vague. Empowering and person-led — never paternalistic.
